Hi, this piece is 8.5 cm tall , wrythen moulded with a broken pontil . It’s light and has a quality ring when the base is flicked,there are a few abrasive spots when you run your finger nail around the rim of the base,any thoughts many thanks .

is it possible it might be for some use other than candles?          The holder showing here is truncated - narrowing at the hole deepens  -  is that how all candle holders are shaped - I really don't know?   thinking out loud.

Possible Paul ,the foot size though does make it very stable with a candle in it,so good design if it is a candle holder .

I have some candles which are shaped inwards the last 3cm or so Paul, others are straight up and down, whilst the "posh" ones have a thicker collar at the base which then slopes inwards. (The "posh" ones came from a charity shop - a full box of them for £1.50, checked the price of them new and they are £30+ per box!)

  let's hope Anne that power cuts are a thing of the past, but if not then I think you will make a killing with those you have.     I think it probably depends on the age of this piece  -  if it were from the first half of the C20 then it might have had an alternative use, but if it's more recent then likely to be for candles.    It's a quality looking piece though  -  is this pale barley-sugar a modern colour, I think it might have been more popular in earlier decades, and the broken pontil suggests not that modern.

It certainly has a quality ring and better than everything in the 50p box it came out of !.It’s not early 20th century ,but just maybe late 20th?.So a good quality glass maker who didn’t polish out the pontil scar ?

I’ve a feeling getting a firm Id for this piece is going to be tricky ,the only piece I’ve come across which has a few similarities is a Philip Webb design for James Powell, ..no I’m not saying it’s a Powell piece !!

    -  good  -  we're very glad of that assurance.            There are often some pieces that defy attribution, and equally we mostly can't help picking up a piece that's attractive.
