pink opalino vase. do you recognize the label?
« on: November 12, 2007, 01:46:47 AM »
hi everyone :)
this vase is pink opalino glass cased in clear with a bulbous melon shaped body and flared rim. there is a small, round gold label that says, "MADE IN ITALY MURANO" in red block text with a small red square beneath and has an embossed edge. does anyone recognize the piece or the label? any and all ideas are most welcome.

thanks,

bidda

looks like cased true opaline from Nason. "Opalino" is the Italian term for colour cased over milk glass.

have seen that label mostly in Cenedese type pieces, but could be just a regular inport label.

What's milk glass   I have this murano bowl (conversation here:  http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,6622.0.html ) that has a second from bottom level of white. The bottom level is clear, above the white is pink and a little aventurine, and then more white. Is this the same

milk glass is white; the term opalino is usually reserved for colour cased over white producing a light (blown!) glass type for use in (mainly) lighting industry. The thickwall bowl you are showing in the other thread has a clear casing and is free form - so I think you'd use full technical description.

Ivo,

and here i was thinking opalino was just italian for opaline  :spls: but, after having another look at your response to Anita in the topic of alabastro vs. opalino http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,17136.msg98862.html#msg98862 i guess it's not that simple.
