Tulip vases with white thread
« on: February 06, 2008, 02:51:20 PM »
Hello all,

i have two, (now four) tulip shaped vases with a white thread border. i have really no idea who made them...
And i have no idea of the age - 1970s?, they are not new.

I found the first ones on a flea market (i´m from germany) with the low border (on the left side) and i got the other ones at eBay last week.

THANKS FOR ALL HELP AND SUGGESTIONS!  :hiclp:

I haven´t the heart to say it... So my first intention was about the 1970s.

I took a look on many czech´s, ok they are similar but i won´t believe my luck getting 4! of them ...

Are the bases moulded or do they have a ground out pontil mark? Does the white rim glow bright green under a UV light?

Not the same and older I feel, but with some similarities...
http://www.rubylane.com/shops/manylittle/item/con106

The bases are shown so that you can compare.
The rim finish seems to be good on both this and on yours.

The orangey yellow colour is most readily associated with Czech glass of the 1900-1920's period, usually with black rims and known as "tango" glass. That is not sufficient to say for sure that these are Czech. The Ruby Lane seller does not divulge what makes her think that they are Czech.

The Japanese also used a similar yellow in the 50's although they are generally of inferior quality.

Italy is also a possibility, moreso for your blue than for the yellow. Italian yellows tend to me more acid in my experience.  However, a number of other countries have rapidly developed their glassmaking skills in the past few years and have access to a wider range of colours than at any time previously in glassblowing history.

Good luck
Peter

The creamy white is what makes me wonder if it contains uranium, Scroll right down to the bottom of this post http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,18418.0.html where you will see my vase. The rubylane example has a similar base to mine
