Rectangular Clear Vase - sold as Scandi - ID help please
« on: May 14, 2008, 04:52:22 PM »
Hi all, there were two of these for sale marked up as 'Scandi Glass' however one was very badly limed so I just bought this one which is in a nice clean condition.  It's not signed to the base but it feels, to me, like it could be Iittala or Kosta - it's got a nice modernist linear pattern to the front and back and the narrower sides are plain.  The rim is ground flat and bevelled, the base is very slightly welled - no pontil it's obviously mould blown or pressed.  It's 6.25in/16cm tall.  Apologies for the poor quality of the photographs - I usually shoot clear glass on black but was all set up with a white background already.

Many thanks in advance for any help.

Iittala would be my vote, Wirkkala for designer.

Cheers for your input Ivo - Iittala/Wirkkala was what I was hoping - I shall do some more research based on your hunch.

Hello, I'm very familiar with the output of Sklo Union glass (I sell a lot of it identified usually with Marcus' help) and this is most definitely not Czech production - it also doesn't have the familiar SU base - thanks for your input but you're quite a long way out on this one!

Pip,

I agree with Ivo, to me it looks like a TW Iittala "Sointu" (Tune) Vase 1979-1992.
Made in heights 160, 180, 220mm. Hunt for a mark, because if my memory serves it should be marked, probably just "TW".
