I am guessing this is FRITZ HECKERT, but open to other opinions
« on: December 05, 2008, 04:02:52 AM »
I just got this piece this week.  My best guess is Fritz Heckert as the maker, based on the detailed enamel work.  However, I am no expert on Bohemian Glass.  The piece is about 10 3/4" tall.  The two-piece glass 'egg' is 5 1/2" tall.  Very thin class, and has a good bell tone.  The metal is cast pot metal, aka: spelter or white metal.  The gold colored paint shows wear and appears to be original on the piece.  Oh, did I mention it was vaseline/uranium glass?  It is a real head-turner!

Dave, can you show a closer pic of the enamelling? I think it "could be " fritz heckert but I also think it could be a number of other makers as well. It's a fine piece, but from that pic anyway I don't see any signature details that were unique to fritz. ( but I am no expert either) , whoever made it, it certainly is stunning!

well it's a gorgeous piece of glass, but I would be hesitant to attribute it to anyone without more data. It reminds me of quite a few firms including some french manufacture. I also don't think Heckert was particularly known for using uranium glass. I'd lean more towards the moser/harrach/mont joye/sevres/baccarat thought process for it.  but there were so many manufacturers in that time period who did this sort of thing...

I agree with all of those comments, except.....as I only study vaseline glass, I have seen my share of Heckert pieces made with vaseline glass.
