I feel I ought to know who made this weight, from the canes.  Is it a Pairpoint product using canes from other sources?

Whitefriars Canes including the ribbons.

I'm sure I heard of a Caithness worker going to Cape Cod with some Whitefriars Canes. The last weight I saw had Whitefriars Butterflies in it and a scratched signature on the base. Can't remember who it was

It was Alistair Ross.  We have a couple of weights he made at Pairpoint with Whitefriars canes - hence my suspicion of that being the factory.

Kind of cute!  It reminds me of one of my Val St.Lamberts.  How old would this piece be?

Alistair Ross died 3 years ago, I think. My guess is that the paperweight was probably made in the 1970 - 1990 period.  Pairpoint produced a few weights with canes from various sources, including Perthshire, I believe.

It Should be after 1980 when Whitefriars closed and the stock of canes left over from production ended up in Caithness along with moulds etc .

Hi Roy  ,et al i am sure you know Ray Annenberg is making some fantastic weights and jewellery using old Whitefriars canes ,Leni has a few pieces and Peggy and Terry. :mrgreen:
