Thanks so much for your replies and the link to the fascinating website with all the information. it's very kind of you. I'm thrilled with the piece, for which I paid the princely sum of 5 Euros.
As well as posting on Glass Message Board, I also mentioned the 'vase' (really an ashtray as shown in your link) in an email to a gentleman and his wife who specialise in Czech Glass (his wife is Czech). We bought a Klinger vase from him at the recent Birmingham Glass Fair - and his reply has just come. I thought you might find it interesting :

Thank you for your email-it is always interesting to look for things in Germany and you can find some gems. Your citrine coloured vase is quite an early post-war piece from the 1950's and is probably a collaboration between Klinger and Cvrcek. Their pieces were very modernist in form and often executed in citrine and topaz, so yours is a bit more unusual. We acquired something rather similar on our trip (see photo).
