Hello All
Im not a Murano collector but I am currently listing a Murano decanter set on Ebay and it comes complete with its original packaging from when it was posted from Venice to England in 1977. I take it for granted that Murano buffs are as crazy as the rest of us so i thought some of you may be interested in the pic of the box.
It has the Murano address label and is postmarked '15 11 1977 Venizia' Interestingly when it arrived at Dover customs it was issued with a charge for VAT of £2 together with a 40p cleance fee. This charge label is also attached together with two remaiing 'to pay' stamps issued by the post office in UK.
I though some of you may find it of interest
UK GLASS
Forgot to add......both sides of the box are stamped, 'unsolicted free gift'
Given the contents are a blown decanter and glasses with gilt (gold??) decoration I would not have thought it was something that would just be given away. Could this be a way of trying to avoid income tax by the buyer ... with the help of Murano???....aledgedly.
