Opaline Mezza Filigrana Bowl
« on: February 01, 2009, 08:54:21 PM »
I bought an 8 5/8" bowl that I thought was Venetian, but I am not sure. The bowl is a pale milky blue with opaline swirls. There are no seams between the canes as we typically see for Murano pieces. The swirl of canes begins off-center. The bowl was apparently made as a globe, then pushed in to form a hollow bowl. The polished pontil has a circular opening that looks like it needs a pedestal insert. Do you think the bowl is Venetian? It reminds me a bit of some of the Fenton pieces I have seen. It looks to be mid-20th Century. Thanks!
