Caithness make decanters! But is this a complete set?....
« on: October 21, 2008, 10:10:52 PM »
Hi all,

I recently purchased this very yummy caithness decanter set, as you can see comes with four glasses. Is that a complete set or should it be 6 glasses like other crystal collections...?

I dont know what it is about these lovely caithness designs but i seemed to be hooked and cannot help but discover all the wonderful items from vases to decanters... its mental!

Ta very much...  :)

I'm afraid your pic is too small to see.  If you need some help uploading it, email me and I'll sort it out for you.   :)

DH - I think it is all up to you.   Certainly the 1 + 6 format was extensive and successful brainwashing of the public by the glass and china industry over most of the last century.   My experience is that most collectors are quite happy with 1 + 2 for a collection as they display well, and 1 + 2, 3, or 4 for use.   I don't often buy 1 + 6 sets as I think the heavy premium that such a set attracts is usually unjustified, and it doesn't allow for breakages.

Thanks Bernard C! It is a very "traditional" thing to consider 6 a "complete" set. Either way i'm happy but i guess it was just curiosity.

Ironicly i bought a set like this in pink design (which came with 6 glasses) and 2 glasses smashed on delivery, so at least both of my sets will be the same  ;D

And these will be for display and not necessarily for actual use! Cos they are too nice i think
