Hi there,
I've been sent these photos of a Queen Victoria bust which may date to 1887 or 1897 and I'm having trouble identifying the maker. The owner of these pieces says they are amongst the finest made of the pressed glass pieces he owns. I see in Lattimore pg143 there are similar clear busts of Gladstone and Disraeli which are unattributed.
I ran these images past Siegmar of the German Pressed Glass Correspondence magazine and he sent back some sketches from the Josef Riedel factory in Bohemia of a series of busts dated to 1885. Subjects included Gladstone, Disraeli, Queen Victoria and others, but only examples in clear glass are known, and none of these sketches were a good match for those shown in Lattimore's 1979 book or the images in this post.
Any ideas on the attribution? It would seem there is no guarantee they are British.
Regards,
Neil
