Rare early Edward Moore decanter, RD 141642 of 29 June 1861 - P4.
« on: September 19, 2014, 08:04:13 PM »
A rare mould-blown clear glass decanter by Edward Moore, Tyne Flint Glass Works, South shields. The stopper is decorated in the same pattern as the decanter body.

The base bears the embossed date registry lozenge for 29 June 1861 – Parcel 4, corresponding to RD number 141642. (The lozenge is so embossed as to be correctly read from the inside of the decanter, so I attach a photo of the base with the image reversed making the lozenge easier to read).

(Permission for the re-use of these images on the GMB granted by ukgizmo2013).

Jenny Thompson describes the design registration as for ‘pattern’.

This particular Edward Moore RD is interesting in that it is one of only three Moore  designs registered during the registry date ‘lozenge’ period 1842-1883 - the others being RD 141573 of 27 June 1861 – Parcel 4 [ ‘pattern’], and RD 217207 of 5 March 1868 – parcel 11 [‘pressed glass globe, illustrated as a line drawing in Thompson].

I know of no other photos of this RD 141642 decanter. Does anyone have photos to show of other shapes bearing the 29 June 1861 lozenge, please?

Does anyone have photos to show Edward Moore’s ‘lozenge’ designs from RDs 141573 and/or 217207, please?

Fred.

Fred  -  I do have National Archive pix of all three of these Registrations.             The first two are both design patterns for decorating the surface of glass, and as you say the third one is for a gas lamp globe.

Can post pix if you are interested, but absent tomorrow so will have to be Sunday some time. :)

Thank you, Paul.

I'm always very grateful to receive whatever you may offer, and look forward to seeing the pix in due course.

a little earlier than I thought  -  hope of some use, although as always it seems there is some small loss of sharpness of details.
