Lalique or other? Frosted glass vase
« on: September 29, 2014, 01:58:25 PM »
Hi

my friend has this vase which she got as a wedding present approx. 20 years ago. She is convinced it is a Lalique (as she "saw one identical"), but I'm not convinced. I am not a glass expert, but I cannot see a signature anywhere (unless I'm looking in the wrong place?). As a "Lalique" she believes its worth in the region of £7000.

It is heavy at almost 5kg, and stands approx. 30cm tall.

Any expert help (rather than my very amateur viewpoint) much appreciated

Sorry to disappoint, but I'm fairly sure this isn't Lalique. It looks very similar to the Lalique Versailles vase, but the molding doesn't seem to quite match (the edges of the foot for example look more rounded than on the genuine item), and it's a little too short (~12 inches tall vs. ~14 for the original).

At least one firm is known to have copied the Versailles vase, a quick Google brings up the name Godinger Athena Vase - I think this is what you have here.

Even though it's not Lalique, it's still an impressive piece and probably will still have some value - albeit closer to £70.00 than £7000.00 :(

Much much appreciated... she may not be happy but at least she'll know now!
