As promised the pictures of Sowerby salt pattern number 1189 design 306887  16th January 1877.

I cannot remember seeing this pattern before. These are very clearly marked.

Length 3.5" by 2.25"
Height 1.5"

Here's a copy  of the watermarked image for this salt, from the original drawing in The National Archives.              Great pieces Roy  -  where do you find these things.

I've just realized  -  wouldn't the salt fall through the holes  -  unless this had a liner??             Suspect you were only supposed to use moderate amount.

Thanks for adding that Paul , and you correct they would of had liners.

Herewith image of Sowerby pattern 1189 from page 9 of Sowerby pattern book VIII (c 1879).

The legend to the illustration specifically mentions a lining.

Like Roy, I've never seen an example of this pattern before - thank you for showing it, Roy.

I bet finding a liner for one of these things is a bit like the proverbial hens teeth.
