Shaker & glasses early animation style design
« on: June 21, 2017, 06:42:32 PM »
Hi all
Any ideas about this set please. The shaker is about 8 inches and the glasses about 3 inches.
Lid is marked Czechoslovakia.
Thanks
D

since these pieces are probably mould blown then unfortunately we won't find them in the Czechoslovakian Sklo Union archives, which covers pressed glass only.
Stating the rather obvious, this name, on glass, isn't seen prior to c. 1920, but in view of the spelling it does appear that the set was intended for the English market, and if for no other reason than such illustrative decoration, seen for example on the Stuart 'Spider Web' cocktail set, then would go for a similar date of perhaps mid 1930s, but that's more guesswork than fact.              Wear in whatever form may help to indicate some age, or not.
That's assuming of course that these pieces are genuine period and not simply later tourist copies from the 1960s - 1980s, or even more recent.
There are other spellings for Czechoslvakia, and the French version occurs occasionally.

I thought these characters had a connection to Mickey and/or Minnie Mouse, but not so sure now.
