Author Topic: AF, AS, AB... What does it all mean? (Read 1842 times)

Hi Everyone,
I know most of you have seen these labels before and have the same question as I do. What is the difference in these initials? Is it meant for a year date? different makers?
I have seen these labels on a few pieces, and all have been different. I have 1 on a Barbini Fish sculpture, another was on a Venini leaf dish, and these 2, 1 from a piece I think is Cenedese, and another with a G.F. label.

I have also seen the initials AB and AQ before on these, along with the ones pictured.

Anyone have an idea?

I don't know the meaning of the letters Javier, but I'm struck by the fact that these are yet more labels with chickens on them... chickens and Murano... what's the link?

You think its a chicken?
I always thought of the center part as kind of star or starfish.

I think the chicken appears in other forms, so this modernistic symbol could very well be this. It also looks like a claw gripping a tube at the bottom.

Lynne, well done and thank you for finding this link! I missed Jackie's post earlier so hadn't picked up that there was a rooster connection with Murano's history, but was puzzled by the number of labels I'd seen with roosters on them.
