Pressed glass 'Cupid' Perfume Bottle
« on: March 08, 2007, 10:03:12 AM »
About a year or 18 months ago there was a thread which mentioned McKee glass, and I wondered if my little Cupid perfume bottle might have been made by them, but I never got round to posting a picture of him!  ::)

When I bought him I was told he was French, but he has no marks on him at all.  He looks very sweet clutching his cornucopia, with such a cute little dimpled bum, (he's even got a little willie, if you look closely!  ;) ::)) and flowers and leaves at his feet.  Anyone know who might have made him?

OK, maybe my pics aren't very good :-[ but doesn't anyone have an idea? ???  :(

I found the McKee thread, which was in December 2005, but the pics on that are gone.

Hi Leni, i dont think it is Cupid, if it was, he would have a bow and quiver, i think it is a putti, and does the top match the base? they look different.

Well, OK, he could be any anonymous putti, I guess  ;)

As for the top matching the bottom, I can't say.  The top of the bottle is clear glass above the 'cornucopia', and the stopper is a clear glass which appears to be of similar quality and colour, and to fit well in the neck.  But of course it could easily be a replacement.  I just don't know.  All I can say is that they were sold to me together, which of course means nothing!  :-\   ???

Is the stopper hollow?

I will look through my perfume book but it is not a shape that I recognize.

No, it appears to be solid, Connie.

I looked through Bedroom & Bathroom Glassware of the Depression Era by the Whitmyers, 50 Years of Collectible Glass, and Colored Glassware of the Depression Era 2 by HM Weatherman, no joy.

IMHO the putti or cherub is more of an European motif than American.

What makes you think it could be McKee? (I don't have a book that covers just McKee.)

From reference to my previous post about this bottle (http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,72.msg205), apparently at that time I saw a resemblance to figures of "chubby boys" on the toothpick holder posted in that thread.  Now the pics are gone, I have no idea whether I was right, or if McKee was just a Red Herring!  :-\  :-[

Just 'bumping' this before it drops off the page.  I've added 'McKee' to the title in case there are any McKee experts about!  ::)
