Are these Walther Rosen Candlesticks???
« on: March 12, 2007, 04:41:30 AM »
The bases on these candlesticks are the same pattern as shown in the Walther catalogues (called Rosen) but the catalogue shows a long stem holding a smaller glass piece at the top....I suspect these have been modified but I'm not sure.  They are lovely nonetheless, and share that beautiful Walther (pre-war) quality and they glow under UV light.  Does anyone know of anything similar made by Walther?

They're very attractive pieces though, aren't they Michelle. There's almost an arts and crafts style to them.

Thanks for looking Pamela - the mystery remains!  More to add to the 'still unknown' pile.

Hi Cathy and yes I agree they are pretty.  It is the quality of the glass that sparked my thoughts re Walther - they glow under UV and they are beautifully made - high quality glass matching the best Walther pieces that I've seen.  I suspect that someone has added the metal 'bits' later on.

I would say the metal bits are contemporary with the glass but they are not fitments I've seen on UK glass. That colour of uranium glass could be Inwald, it's very close to Walther green. Turn the glass the other way up and put in a pyramid metal base and you have a sugar bowl. An awful lot of glass ranges were expanded by modifying with metal fitments

That's so cute Christine - what an idea! But this remains being no Walther I'm afraid
