Youre all right!
And i have to admit i can understand Marcus's lack of patience with us novices ::)
Especially when you know a lot about a particular area, I havent decided where my
collection is going yet, its just always nice to know what you have, regardless of value,
its the thrill of the chase, the detective work, and trying to narrow it down,
unfair for Marcus to be grumpy old Hercule Poirot or Miss Marple for everyone else! ;)

Thanks for your help Marcus, i will try not to upset you again  :-*
Regards Andy

Andy, I've been collecting for...oooh...about 8 years I suppose, and still don't really 'collect' anything in particular although I have my favourite countries of origin.  My house (and shed!) has lots of glass, but no one defining collection.  Perhaps we're just glass butterflies.   ;) ;D

Andy,

I should not have snapped your head off like that.

Despite the mass of available material regarding Beranek and Skrdlovice, few people get beyond a small number of big-name designers, and fail to comprehend the role of the factory during the communist period. Nor, often, is there any attempt to comprehend the nature of production and output from that factory. (see my comments in other Skrdlovice related threads.)

350 items from this company were put under the hammer at the week-end. Some were misidentified  with regard to designer, and descriptions as being unica or serica items were mis-leading. The vast majority were production items, and not either unica or serica, and many are still currently in production.

Because the factory is well-known and one of the better documented companies in the now Czech Republic, Skrdlovice and Beranek names are being used as a catch-all for unidentified Czechoslovakian art glass, and a trawl of eBay, will show exactly what I am referring to.

An example is this item:
http://cgi.ebay.de/Kunstglas-Cz-Beranek-Skrdlovice-70iger-J_W0QQitemZ200088789451QQcategoryZ7481QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

which was never a Skrdlovice product.

Regards,

Marcus

Ok, so what is it. I must admit your taste has me worried Marcus? You're excused if it was for 'research'.  ;D ;D

Hi Christine.....

I bought it, hoping to swap it for an important piece of Sklo Union (or further Czech research paperwork) at some stage.

It is a Moser item. Designed by Jiri Suhajek around 1973/74, from his first (as factory designer at Moser) range of vases and jardinieres. Pattern number 54253/02.

An interesting and relatively important item.

Regards,

Marcus

Sorry if this sounds a little dumb  :-\ Are you referring to the piece that you bought, or the piece that you wanted to swap it for?

If I know, I'll comment. If I think I know, I'll have a go. If I have no idea, I'll just keep quiet and learn from others, so the next time I'll know.

Thank you Marcus. My first reaction was it's horrible, could almost be modern Chinese, but 70s makes sense. It's the red and yellow I think, blue and green I could go with...

They did these in blue/yellow, and various other combinations.
