Sowerby Puss in a Boot (split from Hot Air Ballooning)

... ps I bought a unusual sowerby object today of a shoe with a cat sitting on top, seen anything like that before ...

Roy — A nice find.   I can't recall ever seeing an example of Sowerby's Puss in a Boot, but there is just one photograph published in one of the early English pressed glass books, probably Lattimore or Murray.   I believe it is marked with the Sowerby peacock trademark, but was not registered, or it would be better known today.   Its rarity is probably just due to most ending up in the toy box.

It is interesting that it was not registered, as that indicates to me that JG Sowerby probably copied the design from another source — not one of those discovered by Simon Cottle.   I believe the general concept is a spin-off from the English fairy tale Puss in Boots, itself a modified version of the much earlier French original? Le Chat botté.

Any chance of a photograph, please?

I think he should go to Frank for the zoo as well!

Even if he does beat up all the other cats.... :chky:
Thank you very much!

I was wondering if anyone else had come across this "Puss in Boot" item.

And Bernard - do you recall what book you saw the photo in? I've checked through all mine and can't find it (but it's entirely possible I accidentally skipped a page).
