Davidsons Cloud Glass - Unusual colour?
« on: November 05, 2007, 11:54:35 AM »
I bought a Cloud glass posy bowl on ebay, which I thought was brown from the photos.  I am pretty sure it is a Davidsons 204D pattern optic rim, as it looks very like that, but I can't find any references to any made in this particular colour combination.  It is difficult to get the colour represented in photos so please bear with me.  When looked at in normal room light the bowl looks brown, but when held against a light it is clearly purple threads in an amber base.

I will try to attach the photos but as this is my first post please forgive me if I get it wrong.

I am hoping that someone might be able to tell me if this is a known colour or if it is unusual.  I would also like an idea of the value as I intend to sell it on.  Thanks  :)

Hi Littleblackhen - Easy answers first: The trails in Davidson's amber are purple in an amber base.

A question for Chris or Bernard - how much natural difference was there in the curvature of the rim? I assume it have been shaped after moulding like the 34SVF. This version seems more rounded than others - would that have been within normal variance?

Ah, not rare at all then.  I had looked at that page, but obviously hadn't read far enough - my gaze always sticks on the square Tutankamun bowl, as I used to have one of those until my husband dropped it :(  Now those really are rare.

Thank you Cathy :)

there is a lot of variation in the curvature of the rim. On some the rim is almost straight and angled down, at the other extreme the rim is very rounded.
