« on: January 19, 2008, 06:47:54 PM »
Just spotted this great looking Jacob Bang hyacinth vase Holmegaard are relaunching, in today's magazine.  www.95danish.com  (scroll down on left)

Great price too :)  Hope these don't start appearing on ebay with BIG start price! ;)

Hi Anne,

Your link was more than interesting but it did throw the whole bulbvase club.
We thought we knew of all the bulbvases ever designed by Holmegaard and Jacob Bang but this model doesn't show up anywhere.
It could be from old drawings, never taken in production before. May be Nic has any bright ideas?

Hi Patricia.

I'm sure Nic will know 8).  I have an opalescent hyacinth vase designed by Michael Bang c1981(thanks for help from members), but no nothing about their bulb vases.  The "relaunched" one looks remarkably like my Riihimaki safari vase in shape.  http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y195/glassie/17-RiihimakiTamaraAladin60s.jpg

Actually, it's not a design I've seen either, and it doesn't crop up in any of the catalogues from Holmegaard (or Kastrup) that I have (but I only have a few, so that doesn't mean too much).

The write-up does make it sound like it's an old favourite, though, but I suspect it might be just an old design never put into production, as with the 'New Wave' lamp designed by Verner Panton for Holmegaard in 1984 and only produced within the last 2-3 years.

I think this resurgence of old designs being dredged out of the archives is the glassworks' response to flagging sales over the last decade or two due to the wholly uninspiring new designs they've been releasing (usually with extortionate pricetags). See also their re-release of Lutken's 1955 'Canada' range.

I do really quite like these Bang vases, and I'm very tempted to buy one of each.

Hey Nic,

If you DO buy them don't forget to put them into operation for which they were designed!
Some of our clubmembers are quite inquisitive. If they come up with something I'll post it.

I just remarked to hubby that it reminded me of my Safari vase!
