Pairpoint CANARIA electric candlesticks
« on: January 20, 2008, 03:04:09 PM »
Yesterday, I spent some time rewiring a pair of Pairpoint cut vaseline glass candlesticks (new switches, cords, white 'candle' covers over the electrical wiring at the top, added 3W flicker bulbs, and cut cardboard and felt to glue to bottom to cover the wiring).  I had originally planned on flipping them, but each has a little damage on the glass near the top, so I have decided to keep them!  These are unmarked, but definitely Pairpoint, as I have seen other marked sets using this same cutting style.  Pairpoint's 'CANARIA' is also a unique shade of vaseline glass, a very rich yellow.  These stand 20 inches tall to the top of the flicker bulbs.  They are circa late 1920s.  Just wanted to share something a bit different.  Pairpoint made this color at the height of the USA depression (1924-27) and it was high-end art glass, so their customer base was rather limited.  Anything in Pairpoint Canaria is worth picking up if you come across it.  All of their glass has a high lead content, and a lot of it is cut glass.
