Hello,

I have a large glass vase by Thomas Webb identical to this (see link below) excelt mine has a fish engraved on to the front of it. Does anyone have any information about the Thomas Webb Flair Range or point me in the direction of a good reference.

Hi Wes, I do have a few items from the Flair range, and do collect Webb 20th C in general. Personally this doesn't look to be the best example of Hammond and Eveson's work, IMHO! Not all Flair included controlled bubbles either.

As for the price? Hmmmm... wishful thinking and you should be able to get these for under £30 on the Bay of Fleas*.

As for engraving, although Webb produced some great cut-glass designs, I'm not sure if Flair was ever engraved by them. Perhaps added by a third-party? Sadly, nothing on Flair is mentioned in Art, Feat & Mystery H.W. Woodward, ISBN-10: 0950643904, printed by Mark & Moody Ltd

Hi David,

Thank you for your reply. Very useful information and it opens up another avenue for me to explore and research.

As for price, I am sure you are right. I only paid £25 for mine (and I thought that was top price). More importantly though, I now know about another range and another insight into modern glass history.

At present it is sat on my parent windowsill but when I next visit I will take a picture and add it to this link to show you.

Attached are two of the more attractive (IMO) Flair pieces. The green one is probably larger than you think: 13in. (33cm) and 2.2kg in weight

Two more from the Flair range:

A "double-solifleur" if that makes sense and a blue edged dish. Both very heavy and with the Webb mark.

Seeing Davids pictures, i remembered these , tucked away in my front room, green one 13" tall,
polished pontil signed Webb England, the amber one however, flat polished base, no signature,
but i think it must be same range, or could i be wrong?
(David, are both yours signed and similar on the base?)

Andy, I have three of the vases: two large (green and blue) and one smaller blue one (as seen in pic) 22cm tall. I knew of amber and I think there may be clear ones with controlled bubble bases.

All of these are signed, but I am 99.9% sure your amber one is Webb Flair, so can't explain why this one wasn't signed.

Are there any other shapes of the flair range apart from the bowls and bud vases?
I happen to be walking past an antique shop and saw one extremely similar in design.
It was a cylindrical vase, around 10" in height and 4" in diameter.
It had the dark blue bubble base which did seem to be raised inside like the others.
The base had many scratches and a large polished concave pontil - it wasn't marked Webb but it did appear to be marked with something, but it was so worn I couldn't read it.
Wish I had taken a photo now! I might have to walk past the shop again.
