Any thoughts on this squat onion shape vase would be appreciated please.  Its 4" high x 4¾" diameter and weighs 400g.  Very similar to a Domhnall O'Broin design for Caithness and a Whitefriars design, but both of these have longer and possibly wider necks.

TIA :)

Hi,

That looks a good bit like what's often called an oil candle, used to burn scented oil.

These are some of the less expensive things made by many studio artists to supplement their income while they wait for someone to buy their more expensive items. Depending on who made it there would be a glass, plastic or metal bead that adjusts and holds the wick up to keep it from falling in. There are many oil candles, by different makers listed on ebay all of the time, in the Pottery & Glass category. --- Mike

An excellent description of the lot of the studio glass artist!  :)

A-a-a-r-rgh!  I paid twice as much as that!  Looks to be the same even though IKEA stores only stock a white version.

Designed by Johanna Jelinek.

Thanks TC ;)

Well I think it's worth twice as much as that price.  ;)

I actually recognised the style even though the shape and the colour is different to mine.

Anne, the colour looks very similar to one of my mystery-solved-came-from-Woolies vases (marked Imported for Woolworth's on another example found). I like these bottle vase shapes as they make great lamp bases when fitted with those push-in lamp adaptor fittings. :)
