Elfish conumdrum!
« on: July 01, 2008, 05:36:32 PM »
I would have said this was a Bagley Elf posy in the largest size, except this one doesn't speak English. It's from Belgium.  :o Does anyone have a large one to count the ripples on? I only have the small size

Wow. Well spotted!

According to Bowey, Parsons & Parsons, Bagley Glass, p. 131, "Other companies made similar posy vases but the Bagley one can be recognised by its wavy ridges on the outside underneath the wide rim." In the pictures on the same page, the ripples go right to the edge, and the height of the wave (peak to trough) under the rim seems to be greater than on the Belgian one. (The Bagley one seems to have more ripples as well).

I had no idea that the lookalikes were so similar. Without the mark, it would have fooled me for sure, and I'll have to go back and check what I thought was my Bagley elf.

I have emailed Debbie and hopefully she will post a picture here. The ripples on both posies are on the outside. I kind of assumed that the "other posy vases" meant mushroom shaped ones like the Jobling spotty one

Yeah, me too - I'm sure Angela can help, but she's pretty busy at the moment. If no-one else can find one by tomorrow a.m. my time I'll dig mine out, post pics and count rings. Thanks for emailing Debbie!

(I hope the pelican really is Bagley!)
