Unsigned French vase w/ Swans
« on: October 22, 2008, 09:01:05 PM »
I hope someone can help me with this vase. It is satin glass and looks French, but isn't signed. The satin glass appears to be cut back for the swans and trees, then painted with enamel. The enamel is not smooth, but is put on in dots and patches. The base is clear, polished glass that glows pale green under black light. The rim is about 9 3/4" long and 3 1/2" wide. The vase is 4" tall. The scenery is only on one side. Thanks for any ideas.

Thanks, Mike. Your thoughts are the same as mine. The vase looks old and Legras was my first suspicion, but I didn't know if they had done the dot and dab type of enamelling. I was concerned that it might be a piece that someone was trying to make look old. I tried to find a Leg or Legras among the cattails and grasses, but no luck. I guess I will have to settle for French-style until I turn up something definite.

I saw a similar theme on the Great Glass site under Legras, so I have a feeling that you are right. I wish I could see the enamel better on the site. That would give a better idea.
