Quick Q - with badly hand drawn image! - 'shell' vase
« on: October 28, 2008, 11:28:25 AM »
I just left something behind in a charity shop and can't stop thinking about it now!!  It was about 30cm high, heavy, clear glass, shaped like a tall shell.  Does it ring a bell with anyone?  Have attached a very very rough pic drawn in 'paint' - sorry!!

TIA x

Hi Chloe,

It's a cornucopia (hope that's the right spelling!). These have been made by a number of firms/factories in different colours and from different countries over a long period of time, so I think folks will need more info to help properly.

Used as a classic form of interior design as far as I'm aware.

Nigel

Fabulous - just the word is great for me - enables me to have a better look into it.

Gosh, am I the only one who quibbles so much about £4?!!

As Pamela rightly identifies, these are from Stölzle, Hermannshutte, probably designed during the period 1938-1945, and came in two sizes, 8" and 6", pattern numbers 19512 and 19513 respectively. Please note, the sizes are indicated in inches, NOT centimetres, showing these were meant for export to countries using the imperial measurements system, which included much of the anglophone world. These should not be converted to metric sizes, for convenience's sake, otherwise their identity and original destination may be lost.

The link Pamela gives is to pattern number 19514, height 160mm, and thus intended for the continental market.

Regards,
Marcus

I went and bought it (after a telling off by someone on here  ;))

It seems to measure 8 1/4 inches high  - it does have those half pearls at the base too.  Will get a piccie in a bit - need caffiene first as did a mammouth trawl of the charity shops  :)
