Any idea who made this? I grabbed it because it was interesting. Other than some old Chinese pieces, it's my first whack at trying for something antique.

Hi.

There is a detailed topic on similar weights - "Badge Weight Study - Ysart or not?" and Frank is creating a very useful database of similar sulphide badge items.  (Maybe Kev can put in a link to it).

My guess is that your one may be Belgian...but the jury is out on quite a few of these.

Oooh. There's a number of interesting threads on badge weights.

Mine is definitely the sulphide variety. I think that line that seems to run the circumference of the weight may be an annealing crack.

I got this paperweight today. The glass feels light and the base is fairly rough and 'wobbly'. The surface has numerous 'dimples'. The fracture while it goes all the way through cannot be felt at the surface. Definitely an annealing fault.
