I have made an invitation to the purchaser to discuss the problem here public on the board , but he did not want it.
He only want a little refund. :hiclp:
For me it is wonderfull to see and learn so much here on the board and from the others, which would be kind to give and to share their knowledge!

My base comment was based on my two Chinese 1930s (ish) PWs, both of which have sort of buttony type fire finished pontil marks and have never been near a grinder

It would be good to see some pics of those bases, Christine. Might be a type of Chinese finsih that is not well known.

Besides other weights, I have about over 30 Vasart and over 30 Strathearn weights in my collection, most of them fro the German collector Kerstin Stammwitz (= krapfe). Some of them with Vasart or Strathaern label.. Also 5 Chinese weights ( 4 from about 1930 and one later lizard from the second part of 19c).

The base of the weight we are talking about is typical Strathearn or Vasart, with a base which we called in German "feuerpoliert", do you say "fire polished"?

I have sold over 500 Strathearn / Vasart weights over the last few years (yes, really) and have a good idea what they look like. I also collect Chinese weights, and have around 100 of those. Your weight looks as Scottish as they come - I have never seen a Chinese design like that.

I will tell you the truth: I was waiting for your commend!
You know, since 18 month I am a member of the PCC and since about 2 years I have studied and purchased (some from the nice sellers of rosismum)    paperweights very, very much.
(Of course I have also all the important books, Links and so on).
I believe the same : it is an original Scottish weight,and the rest is, what KevH has talk about.
I have no need for making me an "bad conscience"! ( do you say so?)

Hi Lothar

I would have sold your weight as a late Vasart / early Strathearn without any doubts! I don't think you should worry. If the buyer is in doubt, that is a shame, but he is mistaken.
