Sowerby Boat - in black amethyst (?)
« on: March 08, 2009, 04:08:46 PM »
Is this Sowerby?  Only flint versions (9") appear in the c1940s and 1956 catalogues - courtesy of Glen and Stephen's Sowerby's Vol.Two - George V to Elizabeth II  :hiclp: but no mention of a black version.  I have two of these and both are slightly longer at 9½".
Many thanks ;)

Anne — Yes, it is Sowerby, as you thought.   It turns up on its own, and in chrome or gold stands.

I've seen the extended pink one on my travels and have often thought it looked Sowerbyesque, but was never quite sure.

Neither was I until I compared it in detail to the clear one Anne. :) The base is an absolute match in size, shape and pattern, and there are the same number of ribs to the sides too. I'm convinced the flared one is a variant of the more usual one.

Adam: Whoever made it must have been disappointed to not have any flat surfaces on which to put those little floral transfers. ;)
