red pressed goblet??
« on: April 24, 2009, 07:18:15 PM »
something else from last Sunday  -  which sadly bears no marks whatsoever.   I had thought of Sowerby Rubine  -  Indiana Glass co.  -  New Martinsville.     The shape seems to be taking a line from Bohemia  -  particularly that heavey thick and chunky swag shaped foot  -  and the lenses hinting at a 'cut to clear' sort of design.   Is it a goblet?.           Height about 12.5 cms  -- widest at rim about 8.5 cms. and overall very heavy for its size.     Extremity of the rim is has become almost opaque due to fire polishing, and underside of foot shows reasonable wear indicating some age, although I appreciate this is a contentious sort of assumption.   Intriguing and attractive, but I suspect that at the end of the day you either recognise the piece, or you don't.             thanks for looking, and grateful for any comments.        cheers      Paul S.
