Topic: Vaseline Opalescent Glass Pram

A opalescent vaseline glass pram , I have not seen one like this before, I am not sure if its British or American, I did wonder if it may be Davidson as I think the circular rings on the base look similar to some Davidson pieces just a long shot, length 4.5" or 11.5cm , height just over 2"

That is one fantastic find!  I wouldn't look for a maker in America.  I suspect that it is from the one of the UK glass makers.

If you are putting it up on ebay, let us know when.

Thanks Christine and Sid as my first thought most likely English and not American, the more I look at the item I tend to agree with Christine that Burtles and Tate as being possible with Davidson 2nd, I do not thnk Greener, but at the end of the day we are only guessing and the true identity may never be known, but I think that it not important and it appears to be a rare novelty item

Davidson's Pearline is definitely opalescent.

Davidson's pearline only has opalescent edges and raised bits, not all over. Here in the UK we probably wouldn't call it opalescent. In fact we proably wouldn't call this pram opalescent really. When we think opalescent we're talking Burtles and Tate swans or elephants or Molyneaux and Webb pike or castles. Davidson's uranium glass was also very bright yellow, with or without restruck areas.

Here in the US the main two reference books that opalescent glass collectors use - Opalescent Glass From A-Z by Heacock & Elmore and The Standard Encyclopedia of Opalescent Glass by Edwards & Carwile - are filled with pieces with "opalescent edges and raised bits". The number of overall opalescent pieces is minuscule.

To say the opalescent pieces by Hobbs, Northwood, Jefferson and more than a dozen other early US makers are not "really" opalescent will get impassioned disagreements on this side of the pond.
