Nice quality thick heavy green sommerso effect cased in slightly bluey/clear. Over 1kg, 5 1/2 inches.
Screw brass collar ( lost cap or stopper? ) flat polished base.
Its been around a while, plent of signs of age wear, i think its poss early as 50s,
Im leaning towards Scandinavian rather than Murano.

Any ideas?? Does Brass help identify or date?? Use? Perfume?
Cheers and regards to all,
Andy

It looks like it may have been the bottle for an atomizer. I don't know the bottle, but it looks very Murano to me.

If you have a black light, check to see if the aqua outer layer glows. I recently bought a paperweight that has this color of glass and was surprised to see it was very UV reactive.

Hi Andy,

I also would say it is a lamp base. I always disliked this style because the cord is always hanging down the side of the glass... It is not missing a stopper, it is missing a bulb receptacle, a  power cord and a shade....  Italians did them, so did Val St. Lambert, and some others..... I've had small lamps about this size go through the auction I ran, and I have also personally had a couple of small Czech lamps and a couple of VSL with bodies in this style. When I say this style, I mean where the cord does not go through the body of the lamp, but comes off the side at the top.

I think it is quite large and heavy to be the body of an atomizer.

IMHO this is an Italian lamp body based on the colors and the size....  I would date to the late 50's or early 60's.

Thanks all,
doesnt glow. (well, very very faint!)
Its not very big for a lamp base, see new photo, i think perfume is more likely,
atomiser sounds possible.
Cheers
Andy

ps Craig, our messages crossed, i suppose a small lamp is possible :D

I held a tape measure up and looked the height. In seeing it held in a hand, an atomizer does seem quite likely. It is smaller than I thought....

It looks to me like a lamp base, the brass fitting looks as though it is threaded so that the bulb holder can be attached. This is what I would expect for a lamp rather than an atomizer. I agree that the flex hanging from one side would be likely, most of the lamps I have seen like this have struck me as more 50's than 60s in style.

well, just as you all had me coming round to it being a lamp base, I just stuck my nose on the brass top,
and without a doubt, I can smell perfume!!
Definitely not anything i washed it with or a soapy smell, but a distinct ,strong and rather nice perfume ;D
Im sure its a female fragrance, I will ask some of the fairer sex if they recognise it.(It is familiar)

Im 100% sure now , its a perfume bottle!
I do agree that its probably c 1950s and from Murano.
(any suggestion of a maker, welcome)
Thanks to all,
Andy
