Modern cut glass vase, signed but ... what does it say ?
« on: July 22, 2009, 02:35:24 PM »
This heavy modern cut glass vase has been sitting on a shelf for a while but as it has some damage I have never known what to do with it ... nice as it is.

The vase has two raised sides that are polished to a smooth top. The cuts follow the shape of the raised sides.

Height: 17 cm. / width 12 cm.

Signature: reads something like 57/906 DEL 861

Who can enlighten me ?

It reminds me of Waterford Crystal, just a thought.

Hi  there
I dont think it is a Waterford piece as if they have gone to the effort to sign it they would have put the Waterford acid etched mark on too. Is there any chance of getting a full photo of the base

Don't know anything about the signature, but the design looked awfully familiar, so I dragged some books out.

Couldn't find the exact vase, but the style reminds me very much of examples I've seen of cut Czech glass. My first thought was that it could be Moser, didn't find anything there, but I did find that this style of rim in combination with cut lines was used at Podebrady in designs by Josef Pravec.

Of course that might not mean much - other factories might have had similar styles in use, but perhaps it could be a direction to look into.

Yeah, i was thinking of Jasper Conran when i made my comment above. I've had pieces of Waterford with faint marks so I was thinking that maybe the mark was very faint on this piece.

There's one here, it's not the same but it does have a similar cut rim and an etched mark round the side of it which i can't make out...
