Northwood Good Luck Bowl...oddity or imposter? Ceramic.
« on: August 27, 2009, 10:54:49 AM »
Hello everyone,
I am very new to the world of glass.  On a large carnival glass website I saw a brown ceramic Good Luck bowl listed as an oddity, but authentic Northwood.  I have a ceramic version that is bone-colored with multi-color paint.  One of the points is chipped but the chip is under the glaze.  Can anyone tell me about this piece?
Thanks in advance,
Killerbee

I know nothing about carnival items really, but is it possible someone's just painted over a glass plate here or taken an impression?  It looks very naively painted.

There are a number of ceramic copies of Carnival Glass pieces. They are simply that - copies of Carnival Glass pieces. Unusual and quite interesting, but not made by Northwood (as in this case) or any other Carnival Glass maker.

Gosh, I thought it was a white (milk) glass version at first.

Northwood did actually make cream coloured glass (Ivory aka custard) in some of the patterns that were used for Carnival. I have a lovely Grape & Cable bowl, for example, which has a light brown, nutmeg "stain" over the cream.

Hi Anne - sorry, no online photos of that piece. I'll try and take one over the next few days and post it here.
