Cameo glass? ID = Poschinger
« on: September 25, 2009, 08:59:36 AM »
This belongs to a very good friend of mine.  It looks quite special.  Is it cameo glass?  The picture does not do it justice - I could not get a good one of the light shining through it. It is 'patterned' att around with three big, but not deep, dimples in the sides.  Base is marked as shown.  Ground off pontil but still with a bit of rough.

Any ideas welcome.

Cheers

Christine  (Still not cured!)

What does the writing say?

Sorry - I do not have a clue what it says!

It seems to be in cyrillic script.

I have turned the picture and added it here if that helps.

I wisj I had taken more but I was pushed for time.

Cheers

Christine

Hi Christine, your friend is a very lucky person, the vase looks like a very rare Ferdinand von Poschinger Art Nouveau cameo vase. If the vase measures up at 18.9cm tall its production number is 90/1 and the form is from 1899, the decoration dates from around 1902. the shape of the rim and script underneath gives it away, If they ever want to sell????

Wow - that IS good news indeed and I am  very grateful! :hiclp:

I will ask Pat if she is interested in selling but my hunch is a probable 'no' as she tends to keep really good stuff - 'for a rainy day!'

Thanks again!

Christine

Lovely vase,
nice to see an original Cameo piece, not a recent copy :hiclp:

Thanks very much, Andy and pwayne.

The even better news is that my friend has another piece of cameo glass tucked away and she thinks it has the same writing on it!

Next time I visit - probably 2 or 3 weeks - I will get more pictures of both!

Cheers

Christine

Here is a better picture I took yesterday.  I have also got pics of the other vase she has which I am pretty sure is the same maker as it is the same shape as one on a picture on a web site about Ferdinand von P.  I will add them too but on the next post other wise I will have too many whatsits!

Cheers

Christine
