Topic: High Temp Glass (Colour Changing)

I am looking for iether a sheet glass or a coated glass sheet that can take temp of 450 degrees C with good thermal shock resistenace for an oven. I need it to be black when cold and go clear when heated? Has anyone heard of this type of technology?

Not sure, could try contacting Sheffield University Material Science Department, I know they have a glass museum and this is the sorting of thing they would more than likely know about.

Thinking about using it for a cooker. You know so you cant see into it until its on..

I believe there are various compounds which will change colour with temperature, I have seen colour changing paint.
Another possibility is a compound which could be added to suitable glass to change is reflectivity according to temperature, opaque to transparent perhaps.
Lens for glasses are made which become darker in bright sunlight.
I would guess there are several possibilities, I hope none of them are toxic!

Oven door outer glass has to be toughened to contain any explosion and made to size. No need for colour changing as standard tinted ones work that way, assuming there is a light in the oven. The inner glass is usually borosilicate glass and not toughened. You can also get toughened borosilicate but very expensive.
