Blue Opaline Salt? in Wire Holder
« on: November 06, 2009, 12:56:09 AM »
I'm trying to figure this one out as it looks like a small individual salt as its only
3 1/4" X 2 1/4" but I can't figure out what may have been on the round circular wire? Any help or suggestions are most appreciated. Ken

looks like enamel on copper, not glass. Provenance coud be France (limoges) or Austria?

Ivo when I picked it up I thought the same until I tilted it up toward a bright ceiling light. My fault as I took the picture last night & should have waited until this morning to take both pictures. Here is one held up to a window. While it looks perfectly solid (and it is rather thick for its size) its not until its held to the light that its opaque. Thanks, Ken

Could be 'plique-a jour' if I've got that right, still enamel like Ivo said but without any wire base, you can get Chinese and Japanese bowls in this technique,Keith
