Tall lidded jar with opalescent knop, stem and base.
« on: November 20, 2009, 07:45:52 PM »
What do you folks think of this one?  I think its a bit of a cracker ;D   It stands approx. 16" high and has a diagonal ribbed pattern.  The colours look quite stunning photographed in daylight against a dark background.  And they appear to change too depending on the light, going from pink to orange.

This type of glass similar to Walsh Walsh's "Vesta Venetian" has been discussed before http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,26435.msg145323.html#msg145323 and from what I've read, I'm assuming that mine is Italian, but does anyone know which actual glassworks it might have come from?

TIA   :)

Anne — Is the hook-shaped stem pressed or hand-made?   If hand-made, what is the rib count?

It's classic 1960s fine quality glass from Empoli, Tuscany, about 20km from Florence.   Individual glass houses in Empoli were never identified then.   Now, with many mergers, acquisitions, and glassmaking having disappeared from the town, more detailed attributions are impossible.

You will find other contemporary ranges of Empoli glass here.

Grateful thanks to Ivo and others for the information.

Many thanks Bernard. :)

The hooked shaped stem is pressed glass with a seam at each side.

Hi Anne

I was searching for something else and came across this thread.  I thought there were similarities with the stem?

Thanks for the link ;)  Interesting to see the same hooked stem but on a different piece.
