new find - amethyst "collared" vase. ID please??
« on: January 03, 2010, 10:52:07 AM »
Hi all - Happy New Year .
I've been to another collectors fair!  - bought this because of its amazing amethyst colour. any help with ID would be appreciated. 7 1/2 inches high. 4 1/2 inches wide at widest point of top. The view from the top shows the closest to its actual colour.( I have some 1960's Wedgwood Stennett Willson Amethyst glass and it is a touch lighter than that colour)  it has millions of bubbles - big and small and randomly spread. Base is smooth and well finished but with pontil mark.
thanks
JAK, West Oz.   - on a 42C day! Just getting the swimming pool ready .........

Ha Ha! Pip   ;D

However - If I am honest, 42C is not a lot of fun! Too hot to do much - a day to lounge about inside with the air con on until evening, then go in the pool. Thanks goodness it's Sunday.....

Re: new find - amethyst "collared" vase. ID please?? BIOT??
« Reply #3 on: January 05, 2010, 07:14:58 AM »
Hi - was just on Ebay and saw this item  no 190362672969 - labelled as BIOT. Colour and bubbles are very similar to my vase. Does anyone know anything about BIOT glass? I googled and got a little info - France, and there is a glass industry there, but thats about it.  The bubbles in the vase by the way are only in the amethyst - not in the clear casing

thanks

Jak, try the search engine. There are lots of entries on Biot.

Use the search tab in the blue bar (HOME, HELP, RULES, SEARCH...) to search the whole database, rather than the search box at the top right, which will only search the Glass section.

Biot strikes me as unlikely and it is usually marked. http://www.verreriebiot.com/gb/index.php

Random bubble glass is/was produced by many companies

Thanks Christine and Cathy. advice much appreciated. I did a search of the site (didn't know I could do that) and have looked at some of the threads but I have to agree, none of the Biot stuff seems to be cased as mine is. And I have been over it again and can find no trace of a mark  - It will have to remain unknown - but never unloved! And my education has improved today!

regards & thanks again
