Very large art glass bird
« on: January 15, 2010, 01:36:27 AM »
Does anyone have any idea who made this bird.  Estate sale piece.  Big and heavy - 18" tall, 8 lbs, glass is 3/8" thick.  No markings.  Open Bottom.  I've been told it is Murano, but I have no idea.  Thanks for looking and any information!

I don't have any idea about where it was made, but wondered if it is a lamp cover.

Hi - Thanks for looking.  I don't know about a lamp cover.  The glass is so thick, done in at least 2-3 layers.  I tried a flash light in it, and the amount of light that comes up is very minimal.

It looks a little like these animals on the LaFiori site http://www.lafioredeco.com/listado.php?Cod_sub=2&Cod_fam_menu=3&Idi=2. I wonder if it is related.

Thank you Christine!  - That is so it!  The fusion of the cockscomb, beak, and eyes.  The layering of the glass, the bright colors - I did some reading on another site.  It has to be a Lafiore.  I'm going to keep reading.  From what I read, they are one of a kind, so I may not find one just like mine.  I so appreciate the information.  Thank you, Lynne

And indirectly we have to thank Anne. She gave a link for Lafiori under "Textured Glass Urn." I clicked it and saw the chicken head peeking out and thought the animals looked a lot like yours.
