Lead crystal gives a light blue glow under UV light
Perhaps - if by "lead crystal" we mean 'full lead crystal'. But depending on the proportion of lead oxide in the mix, and other ingredients, many items of lead glass will show as green (but not the bright yellow-green of uranium glass) under longwave uv [blacklight] but a definite bright blue under shortwave uv.

Kev, just that my UV key light gives a purple glow to glass which doesn't contain uranium - I'd assumed this was normal behaviour? See sample pic attached...

Yes that's normal. Full lead crystal gives a much more ethereal blue glow. I discovered it when I had two "identical" Kosta snowballs near some uranium glass I was waving my light at; the one that weighed a ton lit up a treat.

just to continue this thread a bit longer, if I may, picked up this bird today which I first of all thought was possibly U.S. maybe Fenton or Indiana c. 1960.   However, there is another identical on ebay which I saw this afternoon (and now can't find)) described as English about 1890.   The modelling is really quite fine  -  unfortunately unmarked tho., and try as I might I can't find an example in my books on pressed glass.   I think correctly it is described as 'opal vitro-porcelain'  -  yes/no??    I'm thinking either Sowerby or Greener perhaps, and does this date sound about right??     Anyone like to add any more comments, and thanks for looking.       Paul S.
