It is tough to tell without handling it, but the work is a little reminiscent of Karl Palda's Deco era output....  Age wear on the base would help to determine age, but it is tough from pictures.....  I do not know who else, if anyone, produced this type of work, or if it is being reproduced.

Jindrich may know more when he comes along.....

Craig

PS - no reason to apologize.....  we all get excited about pieces....  it just takes time for all of the right people to come along sometimes....

The excitement of a really beautiful piece of glass is something we all understand here Todd.  :ooh:
I'd love to get my mitts on it too - are the edges of the sides polished and bevelled too? They look as if they might be.

They have increased my lust for this vase about 100%, not sure if that's a help or not!  :pb:

While Czech is being mentioned, I was also wondering just a little about French - I'm fairly sure Baccarat used black enamel panels in some of their deco designs. Though my inclination is still towards Czech, neither of these are my areas. I'm just being nosey.

Could this be a Karl Palda 1930s Czech vase?

I love the lines of it. I was instantly attracted to it. This is my first piece of deco pieces I own.

Silly me...  I just noticed that Craig mentioned Karl Palda a bit earlier.  Sorry for repeating  :-[.  (I still think it's Karl Palda though...  I've seen a decanter and glasses with the same coloring and geometric (triangular) design.)

I am reconsidering my suggestion on this piece of glass, and I am now thinking it may be later production Czech, and not early Palda.  In my earlier post I stated I did not know if it was produced by anyone else, or being reproduced at any point.  Here is the reason for my reconsideration.

I came across an auction out of the Czech Republic for a vase being represented as a

Palda Vase

The striking aspect of the piece shown in the auction is that the shape of the vase, and also dimensions of the vase, are identical to 2 - 1960's Pavel Hlava vases I own which bear an Exbor acid stamp. The shape of the piece is quite unique, and I find it highly unlikely that both Palda in the 30's, and Hlava in the 60's used the identical form. This has led me to the strong suspicion that the Palda being offered in the auction is in fact later production Czech glass (unmarked Exbor?), which then leads me to question time frame of this piece of glass..... I would find it much more likely that a piece of later production glass in this manner would be available in Prague, as opposed to an original piece of Palda....

Without handling the piece it is nearly impossible to accurately assess age wear underfoot.

My strong inclination at this point is that it is later production, and not Palda, but in the manner of Palda's work.

It is still a striking piece of glass that I would love to own.....

These images are my images of a third piece I owned in the same shape as the "Palda" in the link above, which I sold.

I hope this all makes sense...

Craig
