Vase with 3 bands of colour flecks - unreadable signature
« on: August 17, 2010, 01:41:00 PM »
Just back from a small break in Germany (wew, the flea markets over there are real treasure troves compared to ours here in the Netherlands...), were I found this nice quality handmade vase, probably (German?) studio glass. Can't make out the signature though. It seems to start with an R, something like Renis? Tried to google any variety I could think of, but sadly no hits.

The vase is speckled with small flecks, but light can still fall through it. The sizes are 19 cm high, 19 cm wide, and the rim is 4 cm across. Wouldn't surprise me if it were 80s or something, given the colour scheme (it did go extremely well with my cousin's interior, whose furniture is 80s...).

Any help appreciated, or speculation on what the signature could be...

The signature looks like it could be Reuss. I don't know the vase, unfortunately, and the only Reuss I am familiar with was involved with ceramics and import of glass.

Reuss is a possibility I hadn't considered. I found a German glass studio under the name of Herbert Reuss in Thüringen, not too far from Frankfurt where I bought the piece. Nothing on his site looks vaguely like my vase, but there is a contact adress, so I'll ask the studio if it's theirs. Thanks!

Astrid:

I've seen pieces very similar to your vase, but usually in different a colourway, green. I quite like them, but I've a sneaking feeling that they're relatively new from Eastern Europe. I think the name on yours might have been scratched on some time after the piece left the factory. In this case, I'd love to proven wrong.

Well, mr. Herbert Reuss has replied that it isn't from his studio, and that he thinks it's a factory piece.

And your guess could be certainly be right, David, the signature could have been added later.
