Guinness engraved mug - who made it?
« on: October 17, 2010, 06:24:45 AM »
a family friend has given this to me. He was formerly a publican in the UK near Stoke, and has had this for about 40 years I believe. He said it was given to him by Guinness, the brewing company. It is beautifully engraved with hops and barley, and the Guinness harp in the centre.  Would anyone know the maker?

it is 9 1/2 cm or 3 3/4 inches high.
thanks

You might be better contacting Guinness itself. There are two questions here; who made the mug and who did the engraving? The mug itself looks like the standard Guinness giveaway of the 1970s. They use to hold Guinness festivals at the universities and your admission included a mug. I think I still have a half pint and a pint with a printed logo from 1974.

Back in the days before "equality", Christine - when wimmin weren't allowed pints?

(daft, really. 2 halves go down a lot faster than a single pint does!)

You probably won't get far via Guinness... although they do have a museum now. Better to get an ID on the blank.
