Wondering if this is authentic Hoffman
« on: December 10, 2010, 08:07:05 PM »
It has the butterfly mark, it's 2 3/4" X 2".  :bf: I've seen this girl puffing a cig in the catalog on pressglas.
Thanks!  Janice   :sn:

And I thought the bottom would be ground and polished and it isn't, it's pressed.

It's definitely a strange one... Pressed is right - these Hoffmann Intaglio wares were pressed, then ground and polished after the details were acid matted. The shape, the smoking girl and the butterfly mark are all correct. I suspect it may be an unfinished piece, though it's odd in that it's been acid finished then left uncut - maybe it's one that left the factory in a worker's pocket so didn't get the full treatment?
