Pressed Black Vase - ID Help Please
« on: January 22, 2011, 01:21:03 AM »
Hello Everyone,
I picked this vase up last week -and paid for it because I couldn't bear to put it down -at a local Trash and Treasure market.
I have been unable to find a maker for it.
The vase is 8" high with a 3" diameter at the base and is almost 1/4" thick. The base has been ground but is showing signs of wear and the finish of the vase is a silky mat or satin.
Does anyone have an idea about who could have made this and what era it comes from?
Thank-you,
Meegs :hi:

Hi Meegs,
no idea about a maker, but it also comes in carnival:

Rose,
I shall do a little more searching around Tiffin, thank-you.

Dirk,
Thank-you for the link to your carnival example it is rather attractive. I was drawn to the vase initially because of its colour and rather elegant form, once I picked it up I was impressed by its weight and its lovely soft suede-like feel.
The more I look at it the more I can feel a little satin black obsession coming on.....

Cheers
meegs

You can eliminate Tiffin, however you might check out Westmoreland & Imperial.
