Big smokey (Dusk-like) vase
« on: February 21, 2011, 02:31:47 AM »
Picked this up today more because I don't have a clue what it is, and no books  I have show it. It's heavy, 1.9 kg, a shade under 9 1/2" tall, and has lots of wear on the base.

Any suggestion much appreciated. No possibility of offending me more than my wife already has on this one.

David

It looks like a space ship. (Other things came to mind but I'm trying to be polite  :ooh: )

Thanks for the ideas. I checked the WF book and site and couldn't see this one, although I saw the general style. I'll take JP 's word that it's not WF.

I appreciate your attempt at being polite, Carolyn. Friends and family haven't even made the attempt.

Strangely enough, the seller I bought it from had mentioned that it's very rare to find WF in Vancouver, which surprised him, given the number of British emigrants here. It's probably more to do with what glass was imported to be sold in Canada. I bought it at a collectibles show where, between a friend and me, we bought WMF, Iittala, Leerdam, Holmegaard, Skrdlovice, Seguso, and one piece of Chalet.

Rose, I'm pretty sure that this is not Canadian, and while it's smoky and has a concave base, I don't see the two as being very similar.

I suspect that this is going to be an unusual one needing somebody like Ivo or Dirk, who have seen it in a little frequented store in the back streets of Buenos Aires or Hamburg.

Dirk:  Thanks for replying. One of my thoughts was German and now I can move on from that.

Not necessarily, David. The fact that I haven´t seen it so far, wouldn´t mean it can´t be german.  :)
