Clear glass bird block, scandi or other?
« on: March 16, 2011, 09:49:01 AM »
Hi all
Now im sure this was on here a short while ago but for all the searching i cant find it, or remeber what the outcome was.
Any ideas on the maker. I keep thinking it was one of the scandi makers but as i said am coming up with nothing in the search so im pressuming it must be 'other'
I actually have a pair of them
9.5 in length 2.5cm thick
many thanks michelle

Hi Michelle :hi:  This is a Jorma Vennola piece for Iittala glass. I was told it could be an egg cup or a napkin ring,  but as I have never held one, I don't know if the hole goes all the way through or is just a dimple. Hope all this waffle helps.  :kissy:

Here's a link to one for sale...  http://www.europeana.eu/portal/record/00401/D37CB5BA1E511DACFF75CBE77423F6FCE98988CD.html

There are dozens once you know what you are looking for, and I believe there is a sister piece that does have the hole all the way through, that is a napkin ring, so I was half right!! :usd:

Here is the link to the napkin rings....they are actually by Pukeberg,  Sweden, but would mix and match very well IMHO.....

I knew I had seen them somewhere.....I do Scandinavian glass....as you know!! :sun:

I like the designlasi site although find the Laatutavara site much easier to navigate, but the pictures can be quite difficult to get an ID from

I love Jorma's glass Michelle, I have the ladies in the sauna...such a hoot, and the lintupuu (birds), as well as the glassglower,  you can just see them behind the badgers in one of my display cabinets in 'Show me yours and I'll show you mine' thread.... and I am trying to get the little bear, also a flat piece, but they never come up for sale....

Michelle, your link no longer points to the photos of the Iittala egg cup. Could you post a new link, or alternatively attach the photos to the post?

It's always best to attach it to the post, because that way it doesn't matter if you move things around in your own albums - there'll always be a photo for people to refer to on the board. There's a good tutorial on how to post pictures on the board here. It explains how to reduce the file size so that the images will be accepted by the board.
